Giannis Antetokounmpo has a new injury that is keeping him off the field

MIAMI – The Milwaukee Bucks got an unwelcome surprise about an hour before game time Tuesday night when Giannis Antetokounmpo’s left knee began to swell after his pregame warmups at the Kaseya Center.

It was likely that he had entered the game with a left calf strain – notable in itself since last year his season ended with a left calf strain – but he had survived a shootout that morning and sustained it Scheduled time on court to warm up.

But he was immediately downgraded to questionable because his left knee had what the team called an effusion or swelling. It’s a new injury for him this season. He underwent surgery on this knee in the summer of 2023.

The team announced the change in Antetokounmpo’s status just as Doc Rivers was about to begin his pregame press conference.
