Where does the Lakers’ Anthony Davis stand?

Where does the Lakers’ Anthony Davis stand?

Los Angeles Lakers superstar center Anthony Davis is off to a great start to the 2024/2025 season.

Davis is arguably having his best start of the season and his best start as a Laker. Although the team features arguably the greatest basketball player of all time, LeBron James, it’s Davis who has the edge this season, and rightly so.

James still has a lot left, but Davis, the younger player, will have to carry the load for LA throughout the regular season and then some in the playoffs.

So far, Davis is responding to the call and doing so with violence.

The 31-year-old is a star in every sense of the word, so much so that he’s climbing up the NBA MVP rankings in the latest update. NBA.com’s Shaun Powell moved Davis from No. 5 in the NBA MVP rankings to No. 3.

“He lost 40 against the Spurs and Victor Wembanyama, then followed up with 31 and 14 the next night against his troubled former team, the Pelicans. “What’s commendable is how Davis is playing injured, dealing with plantar fasciitis and a sore eye,” he wrote to Powell.

“Although we can admit that the Lakers are still getting excited about LeBron James defying age again and rookie Dalton Knecht – and rightly so. Their early season surge is largely due to Davis’ powerful and MVP-worthy start.”

The two players ahead of Davis are Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum and Nuggets superstar Nikola Jokić.

In 14 games this season, Davis averaged 30.1 points per game, second in the league, 11.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.9 blocks while posting 35.2 Minutes of play shot 55.6 percent from the field and 40.6 percent from three balls.

The Chicago native is off to a great start to the season, but most importantly, the Lakers are currently four games over .500 with a record of 10-6.

The Lakers have one of the best records in the occupied Western Conference. Every game is important for the Lakers because a single game can be the difference between a place in the top 6 and participation in the play-in tournament.

The Lakers don’t want to go through this again and will look to lean on Davis to ensure something like this doesn’t happen again.

If Davis can continue his outstanding play and keep the Lakers as one of the top seeds in the West, he has a good chance of being a legitimate MVP candidate all season long.
