My analysis

The Utah Jazz are not having the best season with a record of 4-12, which puts them in 14th place in the Western Conference. Lauri Markkanen’s numbers are also down so far, averaging just 19.9 points per game compared to 23.2 PPG last season. However, it’s still early and the Finnish sniper has been playing much better lately.

Markkanen has reached the over point total in three consecutive appearances, including 34 in his last game against the New York Knicks on November 23. Before that, he scored 27 goals against the San Antonio Spurs and 25 against the Los Angeles Lakers.

The 27-year-old is averaging exactly 23.5 points per night in two games against San Antonio in the 2024-25 season. He also scored 27.3 points per game in three games against Victor Wembanyama & Co. last season.

The Jazz arrive rested and Markkanen has a hot hand.

Harrison Barnes has carved out a good role for himself in San Antonio as one of the veterans alongside Chris Paul. The former NBA champion started all 17 games and averaged 11.5 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 29.2 minutes per night. He also shoots 43.9% from 3-point land.

The 32-year-old doesn’t usually rack up many points but with Wemby only missing a couple of contests, Barnes has stepped up. He confidently hit the over in three straight, scoring 20, 25 and 22 points on November 23 against his former team, the Golden State Warriors.

Wembanyama jumped past his minutes limit in his return on Saturday, but Spurs will be wary of putting a heavy workload on him again. I expect Barnes to have more chances to score the decisive goal again tonight. He also dropped 25 points against the Jazz last week.

The Spurs have played well against Utah of late, winning three of their last four games since March. San Antonio is also hot right now and is not lacking in confidence. I mean, they just beat two of the best teams in the West, the Thunder and the Warriors, and also picked up a win against the Jazz in between.

Wemby is back and Spurs are booming. Yes, they’re only 1-5 on the road, but I really like how this team plays.
