It’s time for basketball: Spurs at Jazz

It’s time for basketball: Spurs at Jazz

Welcome to the gaming thread. Veterans of the game thread know how we operate here, but for anyone new, we have a few rules. Our Community Guidelines Apply and basically say: Be cool, no personal attacks, don’t troll, and don’t curse too much.

The Spurs play their third game in the NBA Cup tonight against the Jazz, who they have already played three times this season. Tonight should be the final meeting between Utah and San Antonio unless they meet in one of the two games added for teams that don’t make it to the knockout rounds. The Spurs play their fourth and final NBA Cup game next Tuesday against the Suns and must win both tonight and next Tuesday to have a chance of advancing to the knockout round, which begins on December 10th and 11th, semi-finals on December 14th and final on December 17th. Teams that do not make it to the knockout rounds will play their games in the same week as the knockout tournament .

Even if they win both of their remaining Cup games, the Spurs will likely have to rely on some of the teams ahead of them in the wild card standings to lose, or they will need to increase the score enough to overcome the Mavericks’ 40-plus point lead in this point to overcome differential.

OK, that’s a lot of revelation for a regular season game against one of the worst teams in the league, which the Spurs have already beaten twice in their three meetings. The Spurs won both games in San Antonio, and Utah won a one-point squeaker at their home, 111-110, on Nov. 9. The Silver and Black are currently on a three-game winning streak, and if they win tonight they could have their first four-game winning streak since March 28, 2022.

On paper, the Spurs should easily overtake the lagging Jazz, but with Collin Sexton and Lauri Markkanen, they have enough talent to beat the Spurs if they don’t play at their best. This will be the first night of back-to-back play for the Spurs, who face the Lakers tomorrow. So they’ll want to give up on the Jazz early and try to give the starters some more free time for tomorrow’s game against a playoff contender.
