Hunter Dickinson was ejected for kicking Duke players in the head after a foul

The Kansas Jayhawks and Duke Blue Devils played a high-profile matchup early in the season in Las Vegas to open men’s college basketball’s Feast Week. While presumptive No. 1 NBA draft pick Cooper Flagg drew most of the attention as he faced off against the No. 1 team in the polls, it was Kansas’ super-senior Hunter Dickinson who found himself at the center of the biggest controversy of the game.

As Kansas jumped out to a two-point lead midway through the second half, Dickinson clashed with Maliq Brown and both players fell to the floor. Brown was assessed a common foul on the field for hitting Dickinson. What Dickinson did next earned him a ejection for a flagrant two-point foul.

Dickinson kicked Brown in the head on the way to the ground. The referees reviewed it and concluded that Dickinson had committed a flagrant foul, which resulted in an immediate ejection. Watch the piece here:

Dickinson had 11 points and six rebounds at the time of elimination.

Dickinson is known for his dirty plays, and it appears his reputation was one of the reasons for the blatant tackle. The referees determined that Dickinson’s kick was intentional. In a bang-bang game, it was hard to tell the intent in that moment, but the repetition certainly made Dickinson look guilty.

We will update this story over time.
