The co-host of The conversation chatted about her time on the reality series’ 30th season on the November 19 episode Harry Jowseys Podcast Boyfriend material. Jowsey, a Season 32 contestant himself, and Kloots spoke about their respective experiences on the show following the upcoming finale. And although Kloots and Bersten took fourth place, the path to get there was anything but easy as, she says, he was “very mean” to her throughout the entire process.

“He saw great potential in me and he saw that we could potentially win this thing,” she continued. “And I think when a pro has a star who has that potential, he can get very mean because he says, ‘I could win. I want to win.’”

Kloots then went on to reveal that Bersten yelled at her during some particularly tense moments in the rehearsal room. And given her background as a former Rockette and veteran of many Broadway companies, she was just as competitive to win as Bersten. But his drive sometimes came at the cost of pushing them too far.

She continued that sometimes she felt like production “just wanted me to have a glitch or something.” But I knew if I had a glitch the producers would come and want to do an OTF. And then we would lose an hour of our time So I would just keep it under control and we would just dance and I would just rage inside.

Kloots took part DWTS in 2021, shortly after becoming a full-time member The conversation‘s hosting panel. It also marked a year after the tragedy struck her Tony Award-nominated husband Nick Corderowas diagnosed and ultimately died of COVID-19. Even in stormy circumstances, Kloots and Bersten became instant frontrunners, finishing at the top of the leaderboard for the first three weeks of the competition.

Kloots doesn’t look back at her at all DWTS Experience as completely negative. Despite Bersten’s meaner moments, she said on the podcast that she “had a lot of fun, too.” And when asked if she would come back, she warmly replied, “Yes,” adding, “I would do it for free!”

After the podcast was released, Kloots posted a heartfelt photo of her and Bersten on Instagram. She clarified her comments, writing: “That sets the record straight! I love @alanberston very much! We became best friends during DWTS and still are today. We laughed a lot, cried a lot and built an incredible partnership during this time! Alan He helped me tremendously with healing, grieving and finding my love of dance again. I am forever grateful to him.
