Trump announces picks for economic and health posts

US President-elect Donald Trump announced a number of economic advisers he plans to appoint to his administration, including international trade lawyer Jamieson Greer as his pick for US trade representative.

Greer served as chief of staff to the trade representative in Trump’s first administration, and Trump said Tuesday that Greer played a key role in both imposing tariffs against China and crafting a new trade deal with Canada and Mexico.

Trump said Kevin Hassett was his choice to lead the White House National Economic Council.

Hassett led the Council of Economic Advisers during Trump’s previous term. Trump said that in his new role, Hassett will work to “renew and improve” a series of 2017 tax cuts and “play an important role in helping American families recover from inflation caused by.” the Biden administration was triggered.”

Trump also announced several health care nominations on Tuesday, including his choice of health economist Dr. Jay Bhattacharya to head the National Institutes of Health.

Bhattacharya has been a harsh critic of lockdowns and vaccination mandates during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Trump said Bhattacharya will work with Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the nominee to lead the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), “to lead the nation’s medical research and make important discoveries that will improve health and save lives.” “”

“Together, Jay and RFK Jr. will return the NIH to a gold standard of medical research by investigating the underlying causes and solutions to America’s greatest health challenges, including our chronic disease crisis,” Trump said.

Another nomination announced Tuesday was Trump’s choice of former HHS official Jim O’Neill as the agency’s deputy secretary.

Trump also said he would nominate private investor John Phelan as Navy secretary.

Earlier Tuesday, Trump’s transition team announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Biden administration to begin working with federal agencies.

A statement from Susie Wiles, Trump’s chief of staff, said: “This engagement allows our designated Cabinet nominees to begin important preparations, including deploying landing teams to all departments and agencies, and complete the orderly transition of power.”

Wiles’ announcement said only private funds would be used for the transition and donors would be disclosed to the public.

The Trump-Vance transition team will not use government offices or technology, Wiles said. She added that the transition includes an existing ethics plan and “built-in security and information protection measures,” meaning we do not need additional government and bureaucratic oversight.

The signing of the memorandum of understanding means that the transition teams “will be quickly integrated directly into federal agencies and departments and will have access to documents and policy sharing,” Wiles’ announcement said.
