Kamala Harris comforts her supporters with first public remarks since concession speech: ‘It feels heavy’

Vice President Kamala Harris admitted to supporters on Tuesday that her loss to former President Donald Trump still “feels heavy” in widely mocked remarks following her post-Election Day vacation.

“I know this is an uncertain time. I’m clear about that,” Harris said dejectedly during a virtual meeting with her grassroots supporters.

“I know you’re aware of this, and it feels heavy,” she continued in her first public comments since her concession speech at Howard University earlier this month.

“I just have to remind you to never let anyone take away your power,” Harris added. “You have the same power as before November 5th, you have the same purpose as before November 5th and you have the same ability to engage and inspire.”

“So never let anyone or any circumstance take away your power.”

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz preceded Harris on the call and also appeared dejected.

“Honestly, it’s a little scary,” he said of Trump’s victory.

“I hope that all of you take care of yourselves, take care of your families and find a place in your community to heal – both yourself and your community,” Walz added before introducing the vice president.

Neither offered an explanation for how their well-financed campaign (Harris raised more than $1 billion between July and November) managed to lose every swing state, the Electoral College and the popular vote to Trump.

An excerpt from Harris’ 10-minute pep talk to supporters was released

“The dial-up modem audio playing on a loop is more bearable than 28 seconds of whatever that is,” Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC) wrote on X.

“I read a 5,000 word article about how this was approved for publication,” tweeted Ben Williamson, a House GOP staffer and former Trump White House adviser.

“Another 30 seconds of circular references on the go,” noted another social media user, referring to Harris’ frequent “word salad” on the campaign trail.

“No video like this would ever have been released by a politician who wasn’t hated by her staff,” wrote Dan McLaughlin, a writer for National Review.

RNC contributor Gates McGavick suggested that Harris’ “best play is to lay low for about six months,” but noted that “the fact that she doesn’t recognize that is perfectly on brand.”

Last week, Harris and his second husband, Doug Emhoff, flew on vacation to Hawaii – skipping the so-called “loser’s party” at the White House, where donors and insiders met at the president’s mansion over the weekend.

“We’re all in this together, okay? We’re all in this together,” Harris said near the end of her speech, before wishing her supporters “a happy Thanksgiving.”

“I wish you to be surrounded by the people you love and who love you.

“I encourage you to be with family, no matter how you put that family together,” she continued.

“We are powerful, those of us who love our country, and we have a lot of work to do.”
