Former Giants franchise QB signs with Vikings

Former Giants franchise QB signs with Vikings

There is a new quarterback in the NFC North.

ESPN reported Wednesday that former Giants quarterback Daniel Jones plans to sign with the Minnesota Vikings for the remainder of the season. The move gives the Lions’ top prospect another experienced option behind Sam Darnold.

Jones became a free agent on Monday after he and the Giants agreed to part ways. The former franchise QB is signing a one-year deal worth $375,000, ESPN reported.

Darnold, who is having a career year, has led the Vikings to a 9-2 record, just one game behind the Lions’ 10-1 record. Detroit also reportedly struggled with the addition of Jones, who was drafted in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

Jones’ tenure with the Giants ended with a 22-44-1 record in which he threw 70 touchdown passes and 47 interceptions.

According to ESPN, Jones will join Minnesota’s practice squad for now, behind Darnold and No. 2 Nick Mullens.

Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell was asked about Jones earlier this week.

“I have to say I have a lot of respect for Daniel Jones as a player and a person,” said O’Connell. “I met him years ago through the draft process.”

“I am sure that now that Daniel is a free agent and there is probably a lot of interest in him across the league, he will make the decision that is best for him and his future career and I am sure that he is going through this process.” at the moment. … All I can say is that I’ve been a big fan of Daniel’s for a long time, and I hope wherever his next step takes him, it’s a good opportunity for him.”

Minnesota hosts Arizona (6-5) on Sunday at 1 p.m
