The TSA is preparing for what could be its busiest travel day of the year. It can be expected to be more crowded than usual, which may cause disruption.

MADISON, Wis. (WKOW) – The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is preparing for the influx of travelers at Dane County Regional Airport on some of the busiest travel days of the year.

Jessica Mayle, TSA Great Lakes regional spokesperson, appeared on Wake Up Wisconsin on Wednesday to share tips for navigating security checkpoints smoothly.

One of the most common mistakes travelers make, Mayle said, is bringing prohibited items through checkpoints.

“Oversized liquids, gels, aerosols, small arms, self-defense items and (and) army knives,” she listed. “This will slow you and everyone behind you down, so we really recommend that you don’t take them to the checkpoint.”

For families traveling with children, Mayle emphasized the importance of planning ahead and giving yourself more time.

“Everything goes through the X-ray,” she said. “Strollers, baby carriers – everything except your child has to go through it all. So make a plan for it.”

Mayle added that TSA works with airport and airline partners to anticipate peak times and adjust staffing accordingly.
