Jase Richardson Injury Update: There is concerning news regarding Michigan State guard status vs. UNC

Michigan State true freshman point guard Jase Richardson is out for the game on Wednesday evening against North Carolina in the Maui Invitational, said Matt Norlander.

Richardson suffered an elbow to the head in the Spartans’ previous game against the Spartans Memphis. According to the ESPN2 broadcast, Richardson developed symptoms and was evaluated Tuesday night and before Wednesday’s game before being ruled out. He is averaging 10.4 points for Michigan State this season.

During the 71-63 loss to Memphis On Tuesday, Richardson played 25 minutes for the Spartans, shooting 5 of 8 from the field and 3 of 5 from the 3-point line. He finished his night with 18 points, three rebounds and two assists. It was a career highlight for the young guard.

The loss is a tough loss for the Spartans in what is arguably the Spartans’ toughest test yet in Maui against the Tar Heels.

Before coming to campus, Richardson was a four-star recruit in the 2024 recruiting class and the 34th best recruit in his cycle according to On3’s Industry Rankings, a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services.

The 6-foot-3 combo guard committed to Tom Izzo and Co. in mid-October 2023 and chose the Spartans Alabama, Arkansas, USCAnd Kansas. Richardson ranked fifth among point guards in his class and was the eighth-best basketball recruit from the state of Florida.

Luckily for Richardson, he can get an extended break as the Spartans don’t have another game until Dec. 4 when they face Big Ten Conference opponents Minnesota on the street.

After three games in three days in Maui, Michigan State will play just five games in December before the bulk of conference action begins in January. Richardson’s status for these matchups in the coming weeks remains to be seen as he recovers from the elbow injury he sustained against the Tigers.
