DETROIT – After another win over the New York Islanders, the Detroit Red Wings return home to begin a three-game homestand with the Calgary Flames on Wednesday night.

The Red Wings ended their season series with the Isles last Monday night with three unanswered goals in the third period on Long Island, helping the team to a 4-2 win over the Islanders. Simon Edvinsson and Moritz Seider scored a goal and an assist each, Lucas Raymond and captain Dylan Larkin also found the net, while Alex Lyon once again produced a great performance between the goals.

Despite their success against weaker teams in the Metropolitan Division, Detroit needs to show that it has the ability to compete with some of the better teams in the league. As of Wednesday, the Wings are in sixth place in the Atlantic, eight points out of first place.

The Flames will certainly be a worthy test. The team was one of the hottest teams in the NHL during the first few weeks of the year (pun intended), but has since cooled off. However, they are still one of the top teams in the Pacific Division. After a tough loss on Monday to the Ottawa Senators, the first of a four-game trip to the East, the Flames are in second place in the Pacific, three points behind the first-place Vegas Golden Knights.

This will be the first of two meetings this year between the Red Wings and Flames. Detroit has won four straight times against Calgary since the 2022-23 season.
