The NYT Mini is a quick and dirty version of the newspaper’s larger and long-running crossword puzzle. Most days there are between three and five clues in each direction on a five-by-five grid, but the puzzles are sometimes larger, especially on Saturdays.

In contrast to its bigger brother, the NYT Mini Crossword puzzles can be played for free New York Times website or NYT Games app. However, you need one NYT Game subscription to access previous puzzles in the archives.

I would have been a little embarrassed if I hadn’t gotten YAHOO right away, since I’ve been writing for a Yahoo publication since 2018. AWARD was also straightforward enough (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony).

I missed RANDO (which made sense in hindsight, but never would have thought) and DINER. However, I got all the down hints for a pretty quick fix. HANNA is, of course, a nod to Hanna-Barbera, the animation powerhouse behind films like The flints, Yogi bear And The Jetsons.
