Between the floats, the performances, the celebrity appearances and, of course, Santa Claus, there will be a lot to see during the 2024 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade — but Jenna Bush Hager and Hoda Kotb will be making sure of it Today Show viewers something special to look out for on Thursday, November 28th.

On the November 27th episode of TodayBush Hager, 43, and Kotb, 60, recalled how they came up with a secret sign for Kotb to perform on the air during last year’s parade, which she co-hosted with Savannah Guthrie.

“Last year, Hoda and I came up with this secret symbol: Hoda brushed his teeth with his finger, remember?” said Bush Hager.

Kotb remembered. “That was the indicator that I was thinking about Jenna,” she said.

According to Kotb, Guthrie, 52, had “no idea” of the meaning of the gesture.

“Just so you’re clear, no one knew this except all of you, Hoda and me,” Bush Hager continued. “Even Savannah said to me later, ‘Why did she do that?’ Because she was like, “Doesn’t she know she’s on TV?” Since this is our last Thanksgiving together, I’m just asking you, could you make another symbol for me?”

Kotb who will leave this Today show in January, adhered to.

“I thought a lot about the symbol,” Kotb said. “I was thinking, what could this be? And there is only one thing. It could be. So I don’t know if you remember, but there’s a song called “RockaFellaCenta” that Matt Rogers does with Bowen Yang, and part of it he says, “I’m waiting outside looking for it.” Jenna Bush Hager, Jenna Bush Hager.’ Whenever I see Jenna, I go like this.”

The mother of two then raised two fists and shook them in front of her, like Yang, 34, does in the video.

“It’s kind of our call sign,” Bush Hager explained.

Kotb decided that this should be her secret gesture to Bush Hager this year and had her co-host act out a scenario in which she did this while commentating on the parade

“Pay attention to this!” said Kotb.

Bush Hager also urged viewers to keep it a secret from Guthrie. “Don’t tell Savannah, guys!” she pleaded.

The Sisters first The author admitted that she actually missed Kotb last year when she was doing her secret teeth-brushing moves during the parade because her Christmas tree fell over. Luckily, viewers let her know about it on social media.

“You really did a lot for me last year because last Thanksgiving we decided to put up our Christmas tree on Thanksgiving Day because we read that Whole Foods was having a sale,” Bush Hager said. “And so (husband) Henry ran down and unfortunately at the start of the parade our tree kept falling over with all this stuff on it. Henry tried to put the star on it and collapsed. Maybe I never told you. But that’s how I paused it and because I was looking for this moment and someone texted me and a lot of Xers or Twitterers or whatever, Insta: “Hey Jenna, go, go!” She did it!’ Then we had to watch.”

Bush Hager said that capturing that moment “shaped my entire Thanksgiving.”
