Jude Law recently shared a surprising behind-the-scenes revelation that could change the way fans view the beloved Christmas classic “The Holiday.”

The 2006 film is a romantic comedy directed by Nancy Meyers, who is known for her heartwarming and charming take on love and relationships. The film centers on two women, each dealing with personal heartbreak, who swap homes for the holiday season to escape their current lives.

In an interview with BBC Radio earlier this week, Law expressed his delight that the film has become a regular part of Christmas viewing for audiences every year. “I just think it’s lovely, honestly,” he said.

When one of the BBC radio presenters asked Law if they could “use this cottage on Airbnb”, the actor replied: “This cottage doesn’t exist”, shocking the presenters.

“So the director is a bit of a perfectionist,” he said of Nancy Meyers. “She traveled all over the area and didn’t quite find the chocolate cottage she was looking for. So she just rented a field, drew it and had someone build it.”

Because it was built as a film set, the interiors that viewers admire today were never part of the structure. “So here’s the funny thing, if you look at it (…) We shot here in the winter. And every time I walked through that door, we were cutting, and we shot the interiors in LA for about three months later,” the actor revealed.

The hosts jokingly told Law to stop revealing secrets because he was “ruining it!”

“We can’t take it,” they added, to which Law replied, “Just burst the bubble. I’m sorry!”

The real house believed to have inspired “The Holiday,” known as Honeysuckle Cottage, is actually a real property. It was only listed as a vacation rental on Airbnb in 2022, but has apparently been removed from the platform.

Reflecting on filming the film, Diaz admitted, “I haven’t seen the film since it premiered. So I don’t know much about it. But what Amanda embodied – Nancy has this real ability to speak for women of a certain age and stage of life.”

“I think Amanda has really met the woman who moved everything forward,” Diaz said vulture. “The meaning of her life was her career. And their success. And being a boss, and a good boss, was something I really longed for and hoped for, and it broke my heart because I didn’t have it.

She continued. “And then this woman who is self-sufficient and thinks that she can somehow escape her boyfriend who was an idiot and take care of herself, that’s pretty brave.”

Earlier this year, Kate Winslet appeared on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” to discuss her role in the new HBO satirical series “The Regime.” Before diving into her latest project, Fallon shared a fun tidbit: he had auditioned to play Winslet’s romantic partner in “The Holiday,” one of her most famous films.

“I talked about you a few months ago,” Fallon told the Oscar-winning actress, according to NBC. “I spoke to Howard Stern and Robert Downey Jr. and we talked about your beloved film. The holiday. I remember being in a room with you, Robert Downey Jr. and Cameron Diaz.

“The role obviously didn’t go to me,” Fallon clarified, and the man who would later play Tony Stark didn’t get the role either. “It went to Jack Black and Jude Law.”
