Monday, November 18th

The category was “American Women” and the clue read: “In 1900 she said to a Mr. Dobson, ‘Get out of the way.’ I don’t want to hit you, but I’m going to break open this den of vice.”

The tip was about a woman who was controversially anti-alcohol before the alcohol ban, and the tip was about what she told an unlicensed bar owner in Kansas. Only one contestant got the correct answer, but returning champion Paul Clauson had a huge lead, winning his second game for $21,099.

Tuesday, November 19th

The Sports & The City notice read: “At 800 West Main and 700 Central in this city is a business and a venue both involved in Triple Crowns.”

The reference was to the makers of the Louisville Slugger baseball bat and the first leg of the Triple Crown horse race. Only one contestant was right, but another newcomer, Mikey McCullough, had a big enough lead to become the new champion with $18,200.

Wednesday, November 20th

The reference to “figures of myth” read: “Ovid says he “fell, flailing wildly with his bare arms through the unstoppable air… and crying out to his father for help.”

The passage comes from Metamorphoses by Ovid. It was a triple surprise as no one got the correct answer. I guess the players flew too close to the sun! Contestant Mehal Shah won and became the new champion with $9,799.

Thursday, November 21st

The note “International Studies” read: “Following student unrest in 1968, the university of this city was divided into 13 smaller ones in 1970.”

The reference referred to student protests at a university during this time over poor living conditions on campus and the French government’s restructuring of the school. Only one player was right, but returning champion Mehal Shah had a sure break for $36,263, winning his second game.

Friday, November 22nd

The note on “Movies & Psychology” read: “In this film, Paula Alquist says to Gregory Anton, ‘Have you gone mad, my man?’ Or is it me who’s crazy?'”

The clue concerned the 1944 Ingmar Bergman title film. Only newcomer Adam Hersh was right, ending the week with another one-day champion and $29,000.

And the correct answers are…

November 18th: “Who is: Carrie Nation?” November 19th: “What is: Louisville, Kentucky?” November 20th: “Who is: Icarus?” November 21st: “What is: Paris?” November 22nd : “What is: gaslighting?”
