LONDON (AP) — A soccer fan who racially abused Arsenal player Thomas Partey in a social media post was banned from all games for three years on Tuesday.

Charles Ogunmilade, a black man, admitted posting an “extremely offensive” message

He posted the offensive comment in April 2023 after Partey, a Ghana international who wears black, missed a shot in Arsenal’s 3-3 draw with Southampton.

The London court was told the post was reported to police who visited Ogunmilade’s home. He said the comment was intended as a sarcastic quote among friends.

“I am not a racist,” Ogunmilade told the court.

In sentencing, Judge Shaoni Myer said Ogunmilade’s early admission of guilt, his previous good character and his experience of racism were taken into account.

The football banning order also requires him to present his passport to police every time the England men’s national team play an away game in another country. He was fined and ordered to pay costs totaling £260 ($325).
