At least 21 people arrested after protests disrupted Thanksgiving parade in New York City

New York police said they arrested 21 people after they took part in the parade and protested with Palestinian flags and a banner that read “Don’t Celebrate Genocide.” It was the second year in a row that a group ran in front of the Ronald McDonald floats to briefly stop the parade. Protesters against Israel’s war in Gaza also interrupted the 2023 Thanksgiving parade. This year, pro-Palestinian demonstrators jumped over the barricades on West 55th Street around 9:30 a.m., sat on the ground, folded their arms and shouted, “Free, free Palestine!” “Others held a banner behind them that read: ‘Don’t celebrate genocide now! Arms embargo.” The parade was delayed by about five minutes as 21 protesters were removed from the street. It is currently unclear whether any charges will be brought against any of the demonstrators. DOWNLOAD the free NBC2 News app for breaking news and weather alerts.
