Barcelona are back on track after comfortably beating Brest

It’s that simple. Barcelona were back in front of their home crowd and, after two frustrating road trips, picked up where they left off in their last game at Montjuïc.

It was a big game against a good team that resulted in Barcelona moving up to second place in the Champions League standings.

Hansi Flick and his men are doing well in the competition, and that’s important considering the final three games of the opening phase are against three top opponents.

The bigger question going forward will be whether the Blaugrana can dominate La Liga again after dropping four crucial points with a loss to Real Sociedad and a shocking draw with Celta Vigo.

The good news is that Lamine Yamal should be back in action soon. Furthermore, on Tuesday they looked like a team that could survive without him.

They weren’t world champions that night, but Barcelona looked very confident.

This was largely thanks to the dynamic double pivot duo of Pedri and Marc Casadó, who set the pace throughout the night. It was impressive to see young Marc recover so quickly from the red card at the weekend. And it’s amazing to see how effective Pedri was in the deeper position.

In front of them, Raphinha, Dani Olmo and Robert Lewandowski were active all night. Olmo and Fermín López struggled to score in the early stages, but the four attacking players were dangerous throughout. The score of 3-0 did not reflect the opportunities that arose.

But that’s okay. It’s about winning and managing the game. Flick will undoubtedly be very happy.

As for Las Palmas, Barcelona must remain aggressive and not waste time.

The bottom teams in La Liga can pose a threat as they take fewer risks and are therefore more difficult to beat. Brest didn’t look particularly good, but that was partly because they were naive enough to believe they could be successful with the ball against a Barca team that likes to press.

Each game requires different solutions. But for now it was nice to see proof that the pride of Catalonia is a team that doesn’t depend on a single player.

For me it’s about maintaining and building on the partnership between Pedri and Casadó.

Let Frenkie de Jong prove in a substitute role that he is willing to fight for his minutes.

Let Gavi, Dani Olmo and Fermín López fight for playing time at number 10.

Above all, keep up the intensity and aggressive spirit.

This is the version of Barcelona that has emerged as a Champions League and La Liga contender.
