Observations at halftime

  • This game is played at the sprint pace of a U21 game. Very vertical, very strenuous, very entertaining. Look for Bayern to slow down with possession in the second half.
  • Kudos to Jamal Musiala, who occupied Safonov’s space after a Joshua Kimmich corner but avoided contact.
  • Harry Kane struggles with the rush. If he had been a little sharper on some of those passes in the final third, Bayern would have had a few more good breakaway throws.
  • It’s crazy that Kingsley Coman has managed to get behind Achraf Hakimi several times through his speed alone. Sané, on the other hand, could find a chance if he can do parallel runs.
  • Matvey Safonov was shaky at best. Bayern might be able to get him to make another mistake that puts this game out of reach.

45’+2: Joshua Kimmich tries from outside the penalty area, but the goalkeeper swallows it.

45’+1: Manuel Neuer easily handles a volley from outside the penalty area.

41′: Kingsley Coman gets past Hakimi, but the volley goes just over the crossbar. Bayern are pushing hard for another goal before halftime.

38′: GOAL!!! Matvey Safonov’s poor free throw falls straight to Kim Min-jae, who heads the ball in.

32′: PSG finds some space on the counterattack, but Dembele cannot beat Neuer. The ricochet is fired one meter away.

28′: Kingsley Coman weaves through the defense, but the left-footed shot goes just wide.

20′: Dembele gets a steal in the final third But the shot rolls weakly to Manuel Neuer.

12′: Konrad Laimer sets up a nice chance for Leroy Sané, but Sané’s one-timer isn’t enough to break the deadlock.

7′: Jamal Musiala somehow finds himself alone in the middle of the penalty area, but hits the ball right at the goalkeeper.

1′: CCCHHHAAAMMMPPPIIIOOONNNSSS!!!

Leroy Sané will start in the Champions League for the first time this season. Sacha Boey and Mathys Tel are both coming back from injuries but are available. Expect Serge Gnabry and Michael Olise to come into play around the 60th minute.

With both teams top of their domestic leagues but struggling to find victories in the Champions League, Bayern Munich hosts PSG for a controversial second leg of the 2020 final. In 2023, FC Bayern beat PSG twice and reached the quarterfinals.

Will history repeat itself? Or is PSG ready to hit hard, strike first and show no mercy?
