BREAKING NEWS: Teachers contract finalized, schools to open on Wednesday

Update at 6:45 p.m.: The School Committee’s public relations firm just released this statement: “Both the School Committee and the association are aware of the stress and hardship caused to our students and families during the school closures, and we continue “We are committed to ensuring the reopening of our schools.” Schools will be a positive experience for our students and the school community. Schools will reopen to students at the usual time on Wednesday, November 27th. This is an early dismissal day for students. We look forward to welcoming our students back to school and resuming the important work we care about.”

The Marblehead teachers strike is over, according to Erin Noonan, chairwoman of the Select Board. Hundreds of teachers just gathered in the Marblehead High School auditorium for a meeting. Cheers could be heard in the MHS lobby. The teachers confirmed that they had ratified the new contract. The school board is now meeting for ratification.

“All units have been taken care of. SC meets tonight to vote and go back to school tomorrow! Hallelujah.” Noonan texted Current. The school board meets tonight to ratify the deal.

The union will hold a news conference at 7:15 p.m.
