Cynthia Erivo could make headlines Evil part 1, But the adaptation of the award-winning Broadway musical is far from being Erivo’s first major role. In fact, she’s had quite a few of them, both on Broadway and on the big screen, with plenty of awards and accolades to go with it.

Erivo, who was born in London and trained at the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, rose to fame playing Celie in the revival of The color purple on Broadway. This performance earned her a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical, a Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album and a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Musical Performance. And she didn’t stop there.

After that, Erivo appeared in Widows And Bad times at the El Royale before taking on the role of Harriet Tubman in the 2019 biopic Harriet. This performance earned her two separate Oscar nominations – one for Best Actress and one for Best Original Song (Stand up).

Erivo is reportedly dating an actress, producer and screenwriter best known for producing the Showtime drama series The Chi. Waithe has also appeared on shows like Master of None, This Is Us and Westworld. Waithe has even won a major award herself, the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series, which she won in 2017 for writing an episode of it Master of Nothing.

In 2022, Waithe told Variety that she and Erivo met at the Met Gala in May 2018. At the time, Erivo shared an Instagram photo of the two with the caption: “Finally found my sister. Lena, you are everything. You are perfection. What an encounter, I’m glad to have you in my life! Sticks like glue!!! SHINE QUEEN SHINE!!”

The relationship reportedly turned romantic when Waithe divorced Alana Mayo. In May 2022, Erivo re-posted a picture of Waithe on Instagram with the caption: “Today we celebrate a woman whose heart is bigger than the body that houses it.” Happy birthday @lenawaithe I……. You know the rest!”

In June 2022, the two performed at the Alvin Ailey Spirit Gala, and according to Page Six, they entered holding hands. Erivo and Waithe have yet to officially confirm their relationship, but Waithe has been Erivo’s date on multiple occasions Evil Press events, including the premiere.

“I’m very private about my relationships because I don’t think my relationship is for anyone other than myself,” Erivo told Vanity Fair this year about why she doesn’t talk about her love life. “I spend so much of my life sharing everything – be it my work, my soul or my life in speeches. I think I give enough of myself that I can keep something for myself.”

“It’s enough for people to know that I’m a queer person who can have relationships with men, with women, or neither,” Erivo said.

Mario Martinez (2017-2019)

Erivo dated actor and musician Mario Martinez for about two years. Erivo told Vanity Fair that Martinez had had his eye on her since she started dating her former boyfriend and asked her out immediately after the breakup. During their time together, Martinez regularly appeared on Erivo’s Instagram. These posts were deleted after the two broke up.

Dean John Wilson (2013–2017)

Erivo was reportedly dating British actor Wilson since 2013. The two met while working on the theater production of Sister law. He made his red carpet debut in 2016 when he starred in the West End production of Disney’s Aladdin. It is unknown why the two quit.
