Everything this offseason essentially revolves around Juan Soto and his decision to hit free agency. None of the other top free agents are likely to sign while we wait for a decision from Soto, as these free agents have not received offers from the teams pursuing Soto, and they will not receive offers until Soto is off the board .

But NJ.com’s New York Yankees beat writer Randy Miller has reported that Soto has offers on the table from five different ballclubs.

“The Yankees, (New York) Mets, (Boston) Red Sox, (Los Angeles) Dodgers and (Toronto) Blue Jays submitted contract offers to agent Scott Boras late last week, the source said,” Miller wrote. “Soto is believed to be seeking a 15-year contract worth more than the record $700 million that Shohei Ohtani received from the Dodgers last season. Ohtani’s contract was for ten seasons, with most of the money deferred. It is believed that Soto has no interest in deferred money.”

This report shouldn’t surprise anyone. The only surprise that could come from this is that the Dodgers have an offer on the table, but it’s likely a very advanced contract with opt-outs. Los Angeles likely didn’t offer an outright 15-year, $700 million contract.

What to watch next: Negotiations between Soto’s agent Scott Boras and the five teams will be ongoing. The race could quickly go from five teams to four teams and then quickly to three teams. Soto demands a lot of money and at least Steve Cohen and the Mets will be willing to pay it.

It will be interesting to see how negotiations go and whether Soto’s deal will reach $700 million or not.
