Driver overtakes Plymouth school bus, nearly hits child – Boston 25 News

PLYMOUTH, Mass. – Plymouth police are investigating a bottleneck after a driver passed a stopped school bus while students attempted to board the bus.

“He was just trying to get on the bus safely and get to school,” Alicia Tallent said. “I missed him by just a few steps.”

Tallent says her 10-year-old son was running to his school bus Friday morning when a driver pulled into the driveway and nearly hit him.

In her surveillance video, Tallent’s son can be seen walking toward the bus and stopping behind some bushes as the SUV speeds through her driveway to pass the school bus on Bourne Road in Plymouth.

“She didn’t want to wait for any more stops. I think the bus driver had said she beeped at the last few stops before ours to try to maybe get the bus to keep going for her,” Tallent said.

You can also see another student approaching the bus from across the street.

Tallent says her son was pretty shaken up, but luckily he’s okay.

“At the back of the bus it says no passing, and the lights were on, the bus sign was off and the doors were open so the kids could get on,” Tallent said.

Tallent and the bus driver have both notified Plymouth police and hope this sends a message to all drivers.

“The behavior is unacceptable, it puts lives at risk and children who think they are riding the bus to school safely,” Tallent said.

Plymouth police say they are working to improve the video to track down the driver.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
