Dylan Harper boosts NBA draft value with 36-point explosion

Dylan Harper boosts NBA draft value with 36-point explosion

In Tuesday night’s matchup between Rutgers and Notre Dame at the Players Era Festival, freshman Dylan Harper looked like a future NBA star.

Harper did absolutely everything on offense, scoring 36 points on 12-for-22 shooting. He hit two of his six three-pointers attempted while adding six rebounds and six assists.

With the ball in his hands, Harper eclipsed so many talented NBA guards with his scoring ability, awareness and basketball IQ. He made hard shots, shot downfield with ease, hit long but seamless three-pointers, and much more. All in all, it was one of the most impressive performances by any prospect so far.

Rutgers ultimately prevailed in overtime due to Harper’s heroics, while the Scarlet Knights continued to play heavy jumbo guard in a heated overtime.

His co-star Ace Bailey had a tougher shooting night to start, but still managed to add 10 points, including the late, possible go-ahead shot in regulation time.

If Harper continues to perform at his current level, which was 19.8 points, 5.2 assists and 5.0 rebounds on 54% shooting before the game against the Fighting Irish, he will likely be considered a top-2 pick Duke’s Cooper Flagg will be a focal point on his side.

According to the NBA Draft in SI’s previous scouting report on Harper: “As a scorer, Harper is lethal in the court as a driver and mid-range scorer.” As a shooter, continuing to improve from distance will be crucial, but he is at least a solid 3-point shooter today. Meanwhile, Harper can generate balls for himself at any time on the move, whether he’s going to the rim or stopping and scoring in midfield.”

The Scarlet Knights next face No. 9 Alabama tomorrow in their toughest test of the season so far.
