Something that happens every year during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is a conversation regardless of whether the singers are performing live or not.

Yes, they are all lip-syncing and that is completely normal for this event. It happens every year and there’s a good reason why all artists are expected to lip sync.

Almost all of the parade’s performers have been lip-singing instead of singing live for years. The biggest reason is that floats move during the parade and having singers perform live would be a logistical nightmare.

Another reason is the cold weather that performers often face during the parade. It is estimated that the temperature in New York City this year will be below 50 degrees, while some years the weather will be significantly colder. Morning hours will likely be in the low 40s.

John Legend previously revealed: “Fun fact. In this parade we all have to lip sync because the floats don’t have the capacity to meet the sound requirements for a live performance… If you come to my shows, be aware that the singing is 100% is live!”
