How much snow will Mass., NH get? – NBC Boston

Head up! We are monitoring a storm system that will bring rain and some snow to parts of Massachusetts and New Hampshire just in time for the holidays!

Thanksgiving Day is a first warning. Rain will begin to fall in the Boston area around sunrise on Thursday. The majority of this event will consist of cold rain for Boston most of the day, but a bit of sleet cannot be ruled out in the early morning hours. Some communities could receive more than an inch of rain.

While most of us will see rain, some areas toward the Worcester Hills and western Massachusetts could see a rain-snow mix or even snow. Communities along and north of outer Route 2 in the higher elevations will have the best chance of seeing snow accumulations with this storm, likely between 1 and 3 inches of snow. Spots in southwestern New Hampshire could see between 3 and 5 inches of snow.

In parts of the Worcester Hills, some people could see up to an inch of snow, probably more like slushy, muddy snow – probably not even enough to build a snowman.

A few flakes could mix with the rain as the storm system winds toward Greater Boston Thursday evening. But this event is primarily a rain event for Boston. Temperatures will be in the high 40s for Thanksgiving.

Be sure to pack well when you go shopping on Black Friday. Morning temperatures are over 30°C. Highs will be in the mid 40s. Watch out for any slippery areas that may have been caused by the persistent humidity on Friday morning.

Colder weather is moving in for the weekend. Highs will be in the low 40s Saturday and upper 30s Sunday. We will see lots of sunshine over the weekend.
