The Cyclones competed in the 1990 Maui Invitational. It took nearly 30 years for the team to return for a second trip.

Iowa State went 1-2 in 1990 and defeated Chaminade in the opening round before losing to Syracuse and Santa Clara.

In 2018, Iowa State lost its opening game to Arizona before defeating Illinois and San Diego State to secure fifth place.
