Markus Burton injury update: TBS broadcast reveals unfortunate news about the Notre Dame guard

Notre Dame guard Mark Burton is out for the remainder of Tuesday night’s game Rutgers with a knee injury, was revealed on the TBS broadcast.

Burton suffered the injury in the first half when a Scarlet Knights player landed on him. He had to be taken to the locker room and was later seen back on the bench with his leg supported as a sideline reporter Allie LaForce offered the update on his status.

“Burton walked out of the locker room and you can see he looks devastated,” she said. “He has braced his foot and will not be returning to this game. Just a reminder for anyone who missed it: he fell pretty hard and hit his knee pretty badly. He went back to the locker room and decided he would not return to the game. They will wait until after the game to take a closer look at his knee.”

Burton, the 2023-24 ACC Rookie of the Year, is the Fighting Irish’s leading returning scorer with 17.5 points per game and 4.3 assists last year. He’s off to an even better start in the first five contests this year, averaging 21.4 points on 34.6% from 3-point range.

Burton made his only shot attempt of the game and had two points as Notre Dame led 35-34 at halftime. Fighting Irish coach Micah shrew has taken on the challenge the team faces without him in the second half.

“It is one of our most important ball players,” explained the coach. “One of the people we run a lot of stuff for. They’ve increased the pressure and we just have to deal with it a little better. We have to calm down. We have several people who need to bring it and help us. We have to get a better offense.”
