OU Basketball to learn more about yourself in Battle 4 Atlantis

OU Basketball to learn more about yourself in Battle 4 Atlantis

A great way for OU basketball to start its season, but what have we really learned? I think that’s the question a lot of different teams are asking themselves as we’re in the middle of celebration week.

This season’s celebration week for OU means a trip to the Bahamas and the Battle 4 Atlantis. The game starts against Providence on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

The Sooners defeated the Friars last December in Norman.

Simply put, OU did what it was supposed to do with its 4-0 start. It didn’t always look good, but it was enough to get the job done.

And that without two of his better shooters. OU had to play a different type of game without it Jadon Jones And Brycen Goodine.

If you have to do it, do it in November. The Sooners might be better off for it.

“We have several guys that can shoot the ball,” head coach Porter Moser told SoonerScoop. “We had a handful of games where multiple players made two, three, four threes. Both of these guys are elite shooters. When you’re knocking these shooters down, it’s really a great weapon to know that a lot of other guys can knock down the open shot. It was a huge win.

“A guy like Glenn. Glenn improved in the last game and scored four goals. Duke had a game of four. Kobe had a game with four. Jalon was super consistent. Other guys knocked down shots. We miss Brycen and Jadon, but we have faith in all the boys.”

OU plays either Arizona or Davidson on Thanksgiving and concludes the event on Friday. A first class field with eight teams.

“Of course we are looking forward to taking part in this tournament. It’s one of the best in the country, the field is great,” Moser said. “I think all eight teams are excited to get started with this field. I can’t wait to get started.”

Goodine a playing time deal

OU continues to be without Jadon Jones and his back injury. Jones did not play this season. However, the hope last week was to get Brycen Goodine back.

That didn’t happen. And now? It is very questionable whether he will be able to contribute in the Bahamas this week.

“We joked that it was like Groundhog Day,” Moser said. “Wake up every day and how do you feel? “I feel great.” Then we head out…he’s really a tough kid and tries to get his way. It’s really going to be one of those game-winning decisions. He hasn’t completed a full training session yet, just parts of it. We’ll wait and see.”

Stand up for fears

The team is strengthening and now we’re looking at the freshman point guard Jeremiah’s fears. After his first start it is also a chance to assess where he is.

Fears was as good as advertised in the first four games.

“I don’t want to bring his speed and his transition aggressiveness into play,” Moser said. “I want to bring it into play but also be super solid. Be great at simplicity. You don’t have to suddenly come onto this stage, enter this competition and reinvent the wheel. His simple speed is sometimes the size of other people.

“He can be really fast with his speed and he’s long and he moves so quickly in the game, so I just want him to be super solid and confident, to be really confident going out on that stage in this competition and to understand he’s got some real good players like J Moore and Sam and Kobe and Duke, he’s got great players around him.”
