Teenage hockey player Colin Brown dies days after being shot on I-55 in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS — Colin Brown, a teenage hockey player who was shot on Interstate 55 in St. Louis Saturday evening, died of his injuries Wednesday morning.

Colin Brown was hit by a stray bullet on Interstate 55 near Loughborough Avenue around 10:30 p.m. Saturday as his family was driving home from one of his hockey games.

After Colin was shot, his father continued to the area of ​​South 4th Street and Walnut Street, where he was picked up by police and EMS. Paramedics then rushed Colin to hospital, where he remained in critical condition for several days before dying.

Colin was 16 years old and a student at Christian Brother College High School in St. Louis County. According to an update from St. Louis police on Wednesday, his family is requesting privacy at this time.

Mitch McCoy, a spokesman for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, says some of Colin’s organs were donated to other patients in need.

“This donation is an example of the kind of young man Colin was and the family he grew up in,” McCoy said. “Your unwavering commitment to those around you should inspire us all.”

Community support for Colin has been strong over the past few days, with CBC High School, the St. Louis Blues and several youth hockey organizations all remembering him. The Dawg Nation Hockey Foundation, a nonprofit organization, will match every dollar donated to Colin’s family, up to a maximum of $2,500.

Meanwhile, St. Louis homicide detectives have been following up on several leads since Monday. Police have received new video and are currently reviewing it for relevant information related to the case.

Police are asking anyone who lives near I-55 and Loughborough Avenue to check surveillance cameras between 10:30 p.m. and 45 p.m. starting Saturday, November 23, for anything suspicious that may help officers investigate could help.

“No tip or piece of information is too small,” McCoy said. “We need everything now. We don’t know what little piece of information could solve this case.”

Police have not yet disclosed information about potential suspects in connection with the shooting that led to Colin’s death.

“This type of disregard for human life will not be tolerated in this city or this region,” McCoy said.

The St. Louis Blues issued a statement on Colin’s death, saying, “Our hearts are broken.” The Blues plan to celebrate his life with a pregame moment on Saturday and will also be part of a 50/50 -Collect proceeds from the game for his family.
