One lucky winner could have a million reasons to celebrate this holiday season, as the current Mega Millions jackpot has risen to over half a billion dollars.

While millions of shoppers will benefit from Black Friday savings this year, one winner could be the winner of the next Mega Millions drawing on Friday, November 29, which Mega Millions says has reached a whopping $514 million.

Once all state and federal fees are paid, the winner of the upcoming jackpot will receive $214 million, lottery officials said. The current drawing takes place at 11:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

This is the first time in the game’s history that only three jackpot winners have won the top prize by November of a year, Mega Millions said – while there were ten Mega Millions jackpot winners in 2023.

On Monday, October 7, Mega Millions lottery officials announced that they will double the price of their game to $5 per ticket in April 2025 – the second price adjustment that lottery officials have made since the game’s inception have undertaken.

The current odds of winning a Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 302.6 million, according to the Associated Press. Lottery officials say the prize increase will allow for “better odds of winning the jackpot,” “more frequent larger jackpots,” “larger starting jackpots” and “faster-growing jackpots.”

“We are creating a game that both our existing players and newcomers to Mega Millions will love and enjoy,” Joshua Johnston, executive director of the Mega Millions consortium, said in a press release.

“We expect more billion-dollar jackpots than ever before, meaning that as jackpots increase, more billionaires and many more millionaires will be created, and this game will continue the important legacy of supporting great causes wherever Mega Millions is played.” , Johnston added.
