Tom Wilson’s power play goal gives the Capitals a 5-4 win over the Lightning

Tom Wilson scored a power play goal with 3:26 left in regulation to give the Washington Capitals a 5-4 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Wednesday night.

While Anthony Cirelli converted a high double minor penalty in the penalty area with 4:03 minutes left, Wilson redirected a shot from Jakob Chychrun for the winning goal.

Aliaksei Protas scored while shorthanded, while Andrew Mangiapane, Dylan Strome and John Carlson scored for Washington, which has won six straight on the road. Charlie Lindgren finished the game with 24 saves.

Brayden Point scored his fifth career hat trick for Tampa Bay, while Michael Eyssimont also scored for the Lightning. Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 27 shots.

Tampa Bay led 2-0, 3-2 and 4-3, with Point’s hat trick goal giving Tampa Bay the lead after Lindgren tried to pass the puck behind him but turned it into his own at 7:25 of the third period Net shot period. But with 9:30 left, Carlson pulled ahead of the Capitals again.
