In the filing, Sabrina’s legal team describes 60-year-old Wendy as “an acclaimed entertainer who tragically suffers from early-onset dementia, leaving her cognitively impaired and permanently incapacitated.”

The admission of the extent of Wendy’s illness is a major blow to her loyal fan base, many of whom had hoped that she would one day make a triumphant return.

The filing continues: “In January 2022, after becoming aware of a series of troubling events regarding (Wendy’s) well-being and finances, Wells Fargo took the highly unusual step of filing conservatorship proceedings in New York State Supreme Court on its own initiative.” York.”, New York County (the “Guardianship Proceedings”) to request the court’s appointment of an independent guardian for (Wendy’s) financial matters.”

In the document, the guardian’s legal team asks the court to redact certain parts of the case about Wendy’s “health, family relationships and finances” to protect her privacy.

“We respectfully request that the Court grant Plaintiff’s request for limited redactions to protect non-public information from the conservatorship proceedings that has been sealed by the court overseeing these proceedings,” the filing continued.

Injunction and lawsuits

Back in February, Wendy’s guardian tried to stop Lifetime from releasing its documentary starring the legendary TV talk show host with a temporary restraining order.

The request was quickly rejected by an appeals judge, who found that preventing Lifetime from airing the documentary would be an “impermissible prior restraint on speech that violates the institution’s First Amendment.”

Wendy’s guardian filed a lawsuit against Lifetime and the production companies involved on February 20, just days before the documentary’s release, but according to a filing, the guardian “never served the original lawsuit.”

She filed an amended complaint on September 16, 2024, which was served on all defendants, including A&E Television Networks, Entertainment One Reality Productions, Lifetime Entertainment Services, Creature Films and director Mark Ford.

The lawsuit was then transferred from the New York Supreme Court to federal court in October.

Since then, the defendants have filed countersuits against Wendy’s guardian.

WENDY’S DIAGNOSIS

As The US Sun previously reported, Wendy was diagnosed with alcohol-related brain damage before being placed under conservatorship in 2022.

In 2019, Wendy was given the devastating diagnosis of alcohol-related brain damage during a rehab stay in Delray Beach, Florida, sources claimed.

While in Florida, a brain scan was performed as part of Wendy’s rehab stay.

A neurologist sat down with the star, her son Kevin Hunter Jr., 23, and her then-husband Kevin Hunter Sr., 51.

“The doctor explained to them that Wendy was suffering from alcohol-related brain damage. They told her that her alcohol abuse had permanently damaged the layers in her brain,” the source said.

How Wendy Williams’ guardianship came about

Wendy was absent throughout the final season of The Wendy Williams Show from 2021 to 2022.

In 2022, The Wendy Williams Show host’s bank, Wells Fargo, asked a New York court to hold a conservatorship hearing for the star.

In its petition, the bank raised concerns that Wendy was “the victim of undue influence, dementia and financial exploitation.”

In March 2022, Wendy was placed under guardianship in New York.

New York lawyer Sabrina Morrissey has been appointed as the star’s temporary guardian.

During this time, Wendy was also absent from her hugely popular eponymous daytime talk show throughout the final season.

After The US Sun asked Wendy’s guardian for a response to the claims, they publicly announced that the star had been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia and aphasia.

“Wendy’s fans know that she has been open with the public in the past about her medical issues with Graves’ disease and lymphedema, as well as other major health issues,” her team said.

“The decision to share this news was difficult and was made after careful consideration, not only to promote understanding and compassion for Wendy, but also to raise awareness of aphasia and frontotemporal dementia and to support the thousands of others who are faced with similar circumstances.”

“Receiving a diagnosis has allowed Wendy to receive the medical care she needs.”
