Thanksgiving Travel Weather: Dry Wednesday, rain or snow Thursday for Massachusetts, New England

And of course a nice Wednesday to you. The day before Thanksgiving. AND WE HAVE A STORM HERE THAT COMES FROM THE ROCKS WITH ENERGY. A storm will develop here over the Midwest and move toward the East Coast. AS Thanksgiving begins. So you can see it coming our way. It’s pretty quick. IT’S A PROGRESSIVE SYSTEM AND THERE’S NOT MUCH COLD AIR BEFORE. AND WITH A ROUTE DIRECTLY OVER CAPE COD, IT WILL BE DIFFICULT TO GET ANYTHING BUT RAIN HERE IN SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND. BUT WITH SOME Elevation OVER THE FAR INTERIOR THERE WILL BE SOME SNOW. The majority of it extends across central and northern New England. And there are winter storm watches for Thanksgiving there. IF YOU TRAVEL NORTH ON YOUR HOLIDAY TOMORROW, BE AWARE THAT THERE WILL BE A LITTLE SLIPPERY DRIVE AND SOME ROADS WILL BE SNOW COVERED AS YOU MOVE AWAY FROM THE COAST End up cutting out parts of the Berkshires once again NORTHERN WORCESTER HILLS. Otherwise we are planning wet weather for tomorrow but dry weather for today. So if you’re out and about running errands today, you can see that the sky is mostly sunny. Temperatures will rise into the upper 40s, with a high of around 49°. In Boston they are pretty close to average for this time of year. CREEPING INTO THE LOW 50S IN SOME PLACES SOUTH OF CITY. So we are in good shape today. DRY TONIGHT. OVERNIGHT THE CLOUDS BECOME THICKER AND AROUND SUNRISE THE RAIN STARTS. Thanksgiving is just around the corner. AND LOOK AT THE TEMPERATURES FROM 30 TO ABOUT 40 DEGREES. BUT IT’S A LITTLE COLDER IN THE NORTH. So north of route two, up into southern New Hampshire, back into the Berkshires. THERE WE COULD HAVE A LITTLE MIXING AND SOME WINTER PRECIPITATION IF THESE AREAS OF ELEVATION, THE MONADNOCK REGION, THE BERKSHIRES RECEIVE SNOW BY NOON. Elsewhere the rain is increasing in intensity and look at the strong easterly wind coming in. TEMPERATURES IN THE 40’S. So the high school football games tomorrow morning look wet. Turkey trots. THEY LOOK WET. AND IT WILL BE A COOL, JUST WET DAY AS IT WILL LAST ALL DAY. AS OF 6:00 PM YOU CAN SEE WE ARE ONLY IN THE LOW 40S IN BOSTON. It’s still raining, but driving north and west of 495 you’ll still see a little snow. And when this storm subsides tomorrow evening, we will finally see the precipitation come to an end. So for many of us here in southern New England, the rain looks like half an inch to an inch of rain. But if you go north and west of 495 and Elevation is really targeting that route two corridor, maybe an inch north of it, spots like Orange and Winchendon cross the Monadnock region of New Hampshire. WE COULD SEE 1 TO 3 INCHES OF SNOW THERE. This will also be the case with the Berkshires. BUT IF YOU COME NORTH OF THERE TO VERMONT, CENTRAL PARTS OF NEW HAMPSHIRE, THE LAKES REGION, 3 TO 6 INCHES OF SNOW ALSO UP TO WEST MAINE. So wait for this potential. Tomorrow the winds will be from the east, off the sea on Thanksgiving. AND ON FRIDAY THEY MOVE NORTHWEST AND THAT WILL ATTRACT COLDER AIR. And it looks like a shot of cold air is coming for the rest of the holiday weekend. But this big dip in the jet stream over the Northeast isn’t going anywhere. In fact, the first 10 days of December are looking colder than average as we struggle to get out of the 30s by the end of the weekend. And that’s where we’ll stay for the next week. However, the pattern looks dry after Thanksgiving. D
